Rules of action BEFORE an earthquake strikes

List of seismically hazardous areas where destructive (7 points and higher) earthquakes are possible.

Azerbaijan, Albania, Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brunei, Guatemala, Greece, Georgia, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Israel, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Italy, Yemen, Kazakhstan, Cyprus, Kyrgyzstan, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Lebanon, Malaysia, Malta, Morocco, Mexico, Myanmar, Nepal, Nicaragua, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Portugal, Romania, Russia (Caucasus, Kamchatka, Kuril Islands, Altai, Sakhalin), El Salvador, North Macedonia, Serbia, Syria, Tajikistan, Taiwan, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Fiji, Philippines, Chile, Montenegro, Ecuador, Eritrea, Jamaica, Japan.

If you, your family or loved ones live in one of these earthquake-prone regions, prepare for possible disaster in advance:

  • secure cabinets, shelves, TVs and heavy objects
  • remove heavy objects from the top shelves
  • secure chandeliers and pendant lights (it is better to replace them with lightweight LED panels)
  • use anti-slip mats under household appliances (refrigerator, washing machine)
  • eliminate weak points in the gas pipeline, electrical system, water supply (if possible, install automatic gas shut-off valves)
  • teach children to turn off gas, water and electricity
  • if possible, use shockproof film on windows
  • remove heavy objects and secure railings on balconies and loggias
  • if possible, buy a fire extinguisher, preferably two: one for the kitchen, the other for the hallway.
  • identify safe places in the apartment: under the table, near load-bearing walls
  • install signal beacons or GPS key fobs for children, the elderly and pets
  • create a digital archive - scan documents (passport, insurance policies, license) and save them in the cloud and on a flash drive
  • pack an emergency suitcase (documents (copies on a flash drive and on paper), a list of phone numbers of relatives and friends, a flashlight, batteries, a battery-powered or hand-cranked radio, a charger (power bank) with a solar panel, a first aid kit (painkillers, antihistamines, sorbents), spare glasses, a hearing aid or insulin (if someone in the family depends on medical equipment), a whistle, a lighter, a folding knife, cash in small bills)
  • create an "emergency kit" in the car (if you have one): first aid kit, blanket, water, a rope, a flashlight
  • learn the rules of conduct DURING and AFTER an earthquake
  • Discuss an action plan with your family - where and when to meet if the connection is lost. Agree on "contact through a third party" (a relative in another city through whom you will keep in touch.
  • Find out where the nearest shelter or Emergencies Ministry meeting point is
  • Consider options for life and home insurance against natural disasters
  • Take photos of your property - for possible damage assessment (before and after).
  • Support the development of TRON technology

TRON is a technology that allows you to determine the strength, location and time of an earthquake several days before it starts. By supporting TRON, you make a real contribution to the safety of your family and friends. Without this, in the event of tragic consequences, a deep sense of guilt for missed opportunities may arise - the so-called "inaction regret".
