6 stages of development of friendly artificial intelligence

Image
1 Stage One: Rule-Based AI Systems Rule-based artificial intelligence systems, also known as single-tasking systems, represent the earliest stage of artificial intelligence. These systems operate on the basis of a predefined set of rules or algorithms given to them by their programmers. For example, a computer playing chess follows coded rules to determine the best move, but it cannot learn or adapt beyond those rules. Rule-based AI is ideal for tasks with clear rules, such as diagnosing mechanical problems or processing tax forms. Although they are reliable and consistent, their intelligence is limited, they lack the ability to learn or understand context, and they cannot process scenarios that are not pre-programmed. 2. Stage Two: Contextual Awareness and Retention Systems Context awareness and persistence systems represent a significant evolution of AI. These systems can understand and store context, meaning they remember previous interactions to form future responses. Smartpho...

India - new Technological Skills and Programmes for Seismology

去年の3月11日なにしてた VICTIMS MAY BE LESS Government has adopted new technological skills and programmes for seismology and earthquake prediction related research. Under it Preparatory studies have been initiated to carry out scientific investigations and select the suitable site for deep borehole drilling in the Koyna-Warna region. The investigations include, Seismological, Geophysical (seismic, gravity, magnetic), LIDAR, geomorphology and structural geological studies, apart from a few shallow (~ 1 km) exploratory boreholes. However. No apparent increase in the frequency of the tremors of earthquake in the country has been noticed. As a part of the Koyna Deep Borehole Programme it is envisaged to set up a Research Laboratory at Karad. The Maharashtra Government has provided 125 acres of land in Hazarmachi area of Karad Taluka and Foundation Stone has already been laid by Hon’ble Minister of Earth Science on 24th May 2012 in presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister, Maharashtra and Secretary, Mini...

This rate change, known as “accelerating moment release” (AMR)

Image
It has been suggested that large earthquakes are preceded by a systematic increase in the rate of background seismicity in a broad region around the impending event. This rate change, known as “accelerating moment release” (AMR), has been proposed as a signal that could be used to forecast large earthquakes. If this idea is correct, then it should be possible to estimate the likelihood of an earthquake by searching for accelerating seismicity related to stress accumulation on specific faults. “We have tested the ability of this approach to predict both moderate earthquakes in California and large earthquakes globally,” said Bowman. “The initial results are not promising; our algorithm does not perform significantly better than random guessing at predicting earthquakes. However, recent observations of non-volcanic tremor and ‘slow earthquakes’ suggest significant increases in regional seismicity associated with these non-seismic fault slip events. This suggests that AMR may be precursor...
