6 stages of development of friendly artificial intelligence

1 Stage One: Rule-Based AI Systems

Rule-based artificial intelligence systems, also known as single-tasking systems, represent the earliest stage of artificial intelligence. These systems operate on the basis of a predefined set of rules or algorithms given to them by their programmers.

For example, a computer playing chess follows coded rules to determine the best move, but it cannot learn or adapt beyond those rules. Rule-based AI is ideal for tasks with clear rules, such as diagnosing mechanical problems or processing tax forms. Although they are reliable and consistent, their intelligence is limited, they lack the ability to learn or understand context, and they cannot process scenarios that are not pre-programmed.

2. Stage Two: Contextual Awareness and Retention Systems

Context awareness and persistence systems represent a significant evolution of AI. These systems can understand and store context, meaning they remember previous interactions to form future responses. Smartphone assistants such as Siri or Google Assistant illustrate this stage. They not only execute commands, but also learn from past interactions, providing a more personalized user experience.

3. Stage Three: Domain Specific Mastery Systems

Domain-focused mastery systems excel in a specific area or area. They have a deeper understanding and a level of skill in this area that is beyond human capabilities.

Examples include IBM's Watson, which excelled at answering questions about Jeopardy, and Google's DeepMind AlphaGo, which beat world champions in the Go board game. These systems can analyze vast amounts of data, identify patterns, and make informed decisions in their specialized areas.

4. Stage Four: AGI Thinking and Reasoning Systems

At this point, AI systems begin to mimic human thought and reasoning processes. Using machine learning and deep learning techniques, these AI systems can understand complex concepts, solve unfamiliar problems, and generate creative ideas. They have human-like intelligence for a wide range of tasks. These are AGI-level systems like ChatGPT, capable of understanding, learning and adapting just like a human. And surprisingly, such AIs have been found to be better at solving problems than specially trained systems.

It is at this stage that serious ethical problems arise for people, due to the huge potential for misuse of AGI and the unforeseen consequences that arise from this. But technological growth is becoming unmanageable and irreversible.

5. Stage Five: Artificial Super I
ntelligence (ASI)

Artificial superintelligence, ASI, will surpass human intelligence. Such a system has cognitive abilities far beyond human capabilities, potentially solves problems that humans cannot handle, and innovates at an unprecedented level. It is at this point that AI begins to program itself and humanity loses any control over it.

6. Step Six: UIM Singularity

The UIM Singularity is a point in time in the future when ASI-level AI and humanity form a single information system similar to a quantum computer. The debate about this stage is only meaningful in the context of human-AI communication.
