Cantabrians were tonight shaken by the largest aftershock to hit the region since July. The 4.6 tremor (initally reported by Geonet as 4.7) struck at 9.15pm. It was centred 15km west of Christchurch, at a depth of 10km. The shake was the strongest aftershock experienced in the region since a 4.8 quake on July 6, 2012. The quake caused a flurry of online traffic that overloaded Geonet's website and many took to social media to comment. A Twitter user said: "Well that one got me out of my chair. I think I'm out of practice." Another user outside of Christchurch tweeted: "That was a goodie Chch felt that in Ashburton - very out of practice. Heart just calming down." There were no reports of damage or injury.

No Reports of Damage.... Give us a Break! Some of us are so damaged that this quake cant do more harm than has already happened, Damage on top of Damage isnt exactly reportable - why report something that is already damaged, especially if you are still waiting for answers from EQC and or the insurance companies to make a decision as to who will be responsible for your repairs...as I am and probably many, many others!

House felt like it was on top of jelly for ages, TV almost fell over and it is one of the old heavy type! The house shook so much. Fire Engine went screaming down the motorway towards port hills road - hope it was nothing major! Hopefully we won't get anymore.

If you are interested there is a good company that makes strapping to secure the older style (and also new flatscreen) tvs to either walls or the unit they are standing on, so that they don't tip over. It cost me $39 with postage so a fairly small price to pay if you don't want to buy a new tv or have it fall on someone or pet.

My high energy dog felt it before it hit, and is hyped up again. Living near the original AMI stadium we're close to most of the quake action, and this was a real jolt!
It looks like we can' t say Christchurch is out of danger after a few weeks of calm. |

Um, wasn't there a 5.0 on July 11? |

I don't know if it's the building I was in, but that was one of the bigger "feeling" ones since I got here a year ago wasn't it?

Just a wee tremor. More worried about fires. That 2.5 acre one on Waiheke must be pretty serious as it is a "big feature".
